Currently, the final form of the basic regulation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is negotiated by the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament (called the Trialogue negotiations). The Council is represented by Ulrike Rodust, the Rapporteur and the current presidency of the Irish Parliament.

So far they have held four negotiations, but have recently increased the pace to catch agreement before the summer break, when the Irish presidency is come to an end. In the fall, there will be less time to work with the CFP and in order to have the new CFP in place before the Parliament goes to election and the EU Commission is replaced in the spring of 2014, all parties are very keen to reach agreement before the summer.
